Pinty’s Delicious Foods is recalling additional products due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), the company is recalling Pinty's brand Italian Style Chicken Schnitzel  - Gluten Free Fully Cooked, Breaded and Seasoned Cutlettes from the marketplace following test results from the CFIA. The affected products came in 4 kilogram packages and carry the UPC code 10069094626371. They were distributed across Canada to hotels, restaurants and institutions.

No illnesses related to consumption of the Pinty’s products have been reported.

The expanded recall follows a recall of Pinty’s Oven Roasted Chicken Breast Strips. The product came in 1-kilogram packages and includes the UPC code 0 69094 62401 1. The affected products either have a best before date of August 9 or August 15.

Precautions to take

CFIA advises that consumers should not consume and distributors and food service establishments such as hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, hospitals and nursing homes should not sell or use the recalled product.

The agency further recommended that recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth. In severe cases of illness, people may die.

In June, it was announced that an agreement had been reached in which Olymel would acquire all of the shares of Pinty’s Delicious Foods, pending the approval of the Competition Bureau. Olymel owns seven poultry slaughtering and processing establishments in QuebecOntario and New Brunswick serving the entirety of the Canadian market under the brands Olymel, Flamingo and Galco, in addition to placing its production capacity at the service of private brands.
