No new reports of mycotoxins as US corn quickly matures

As the U.S. corn crop races toward harvest, there were no new reports of mycotoxins in crops across the country this week, according to Neogen’s Monday Mycotoxin and Crop Report from September 10.

As the U.S. corn crop races toward harvest, there were no new reports of mycotoxins in crops across the country this week, according to Neogen’s Monday Mycotoxin and Crop Report from September 10.

Previous reports of aflatoxin in corn have come from Oklahoma, Missouri, Iowa, Texas, Kansas and Georgia.

Previous reports of fumonisin in corn have come from Oklahoma, Texas and Missouri.

Previous reports of deoxynivalenol (DON) in barley have come from Pennsylvania and Minnesota.

Previous reports of DON in winter wheat have come from Wisconsin, Ohio, New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Indiana, North Carolina, Maryland, Delaware, Tennessee, Virginia and Illinois.

Corn progress, conditions

Ninety-six percent of corn has reached the dough stage, five points ahead of the five-year average. Seventy-five percent of corn has reached the dented stage, 15 points ahead of the five-year average. Twenty-two percent of corn has reached the mature stage, which is double the five-year average.

States with mature corn greater than 20 percent of normal are Illinois, Missouri and Tennessee.

Sixty-seven percent of corn is in good to excellent condition, while 12 percent of corn is in poor to very poor condition.

States with the highest poor to very poor ratings are Missouri, Texas, North Carolina, Michigan and Kansas.

Other crops

Eighty-four percent of barley has been harvested, one point ahead of the five-year average.

Oats are 94 percent harvested, three points ahead of the five-year average.

Spring wheat is 87 percent harvested, 12 points ahead of the five-year average.

The winter wheat harvest is complete.
