Operations have resumed at three Perdue Farms poultry plants in the Carolinas that had production suspended, as well as one House of Raeford plant that was taken offline due to Hurricane Florence.
Perdue Farms
Perdue Farms took three of its plants offline on September 14. Those facilities are located in Lewiston and Rockingham, North Carolina, and Dillon, South Carolina.
However, Perdue Farms spokesman Joe Forsthoffer said that operations in Lewiston resumed on the following day. The plant in Dillon was off to “a slow start on Monday night, and began to ramp up production as more people were able to make it back to work,” he said.
The plant in Rockingham resumed operations on the morning of September 20.
“Things are working their way back to normal. There’s still some working around how to get from Point A to Point B, but all of the plants are running and we’re catching up on things,” Forsthoffer said. “We were able to work across the supply chain with our other plants to minimize any impact on our customers.”
House of Raeford Farms
Two House of Raeford Farms plants had production halted following the storm due to a lack of electricity. However, its poultry plant in Rose Hill, North Carolina, resumed operations on the evening of September 20, company spokesman Dave Witter said.
It’s new plant, known as the Wallace plant, in Teachey, North Carolina, was still without power when operations resumed in Rose Hill.
That facility, which was recently rebuilt after a fire destroyed the existing plant, was not in full production at the time the hurricane hit, but had been in “start-up mode,” Witter said.
Witter added that it was unknown when work at the Wallace plant would resume, but said, “at the earliest, it should be operational sometime next week.”
