Leading Ukrainian poultry company MHP has confirmed that it is seeking to acquire Perutnina Ptuj, a well-established and vertically integrated company in Southeast Europe.

“MHP is undertaking a strategic step with this expansion, which will add value to the company and strengthen its position as a global player, while Perutnina Ptuj is obtaining a strategic long-term investor,” MHP stated in a press release. “Perutnina Ptuj has a strong brand and significant share of poultry value-added products, which MHP is ready to support over the coming years through investment and further development.”

MHP is a vertically integrated company and a leading poultry producer in Ukraine with a 50 percent domestic market share, according to the WATTAgNet Top Poultry Companies database. It has cutting facilities in the Netherlands and Slovakia and a sales and distribution office in the United Arab Emirates. The company also has three feed mills. The acquisition of Perutnina Ptuj would expand MHP's presence in Europe and in the poultry and feed industries.

Perutnina Ptuj, according to the top companies database,  is the biggest poultry producer in Slovenia. It also has vertical broiler chicken and turkey integrations in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia with additional operations in Austria, Macedonia and Romania. The company also produces its own feeds with a capacity of 210,271 metric tons.

MHP, formerly known as Mironivsky Hliboproduct, sells around 60 percent of its poultry products domestically and the remaining 40 percent to over 60 countries across the world, according to the press release.

“Together with a highly experienced management team, MHP commits itself to improve the quality of the Perutnina Ptuj’s production base to meet the highest EU standards,” the company stated. “This cooperation will bring direct benefits to local farmers and employees as well as have a positive impact on the poultry industry in the Balkan region in general.”
