The American Egg Board’s (AEB) common mission across all programs is to increase the demand for U.S. eggs and egg products through research, education and promotion, explained John Howeth, senior vice president of market development for the AEB.

AEB is working to advance trade with key international egg buyers through strategic initiatives, including hosting buyers at the upcoming Americas Food and Beverage (AFB) show in Miami, which begins Oct. 1.

“We are also hosting 20 key egg buyers from the Caribbean and Mexico to provide top-notch training on U.S. eggs and to meet one-on-one with U.S. egg suppliers and producers while in Miami,” Howeth said.

The participating buyers include importers, distributors and buyers from a variety of channels, including foodservice, retail and manufacturing.

“AEB is highlighting the quality, variety and food safety of U.S. eggs and egg products, along with providing training and education on the use of and functionality of eggs and egg products,” Haweth explained.

From these efforts AEB hopes to help U.S. egg producers build their business, as well as fulfill the AEB’s mission of increasing global demand for U.S. eggs and egg products. “We hope that this growth can extend across borders by allowing producers to craft meaningful relationships with buyers in Mexico and the Caribbean, as well as our other target market regions,” he said.

By bettering these international relationships, AEB hopes to see the positive effects in fiscal year 2019 as the egg market continues to grow.

U.S. egg production is up 3 percent since August of last year.

AEB hopes that by bettering these relationships, the egg industry will continue to prosper. “The Caribbean and Mexican markets represent a strong growth opportunity for U.S. egg exports. For 2017, the Caribbean ranked third and Mexico ranked fourth in value among U.S. export destinations for table eggs and products,” he said.

While onsite at AFB, Howeth will be co-presenting a workshop titled “Eggcellent Opportunity: Egg Trends and How to Use U.S. Eggs and Egg Products to Improve your Bottom Line.” Discussion items include trends affecting U.S. eggs sales, how to leverage egg products and the steps involved in egg processing and safeguards in place to ensure U.S. egg quality and safety.
