Woman dies after vehicle collides with Mountaire trucks

A woman was killed at the scene of a traffic accident in which her vehicle made contact with two tractor-trailers hauling chickens for Mountaire Farms in Raeford, North Carolina.

A woman was killed at the scene of a traffic accident in which her vehicle made contact with two tractor-trailers hauling chickens for Mountaire Farms in Raeford, North Carolina.

According to a report from the Fayetteville Observer, Wanda Hunt Carter, a resident of Raeford, was driving northbound in a Jeep Cherokee along West Palmer Street while two Mountaire Farms tractor-trailers were driving southbound.

Carter’s vehicle apparently crossed the center line sideswiped the first Mountaire rig, bumping against its rear wheels. Carter’s vehicle then sideswiped the second truck and collided again with the rear wheels, a law enforcement detective told the Observer.

Carter was pronounced dead at the scene.

It has not been determined why Carter crossed the center line.

Information about the whether the drivers of the two Mountaire Farms trucks was not available.

Mountaire Farms, according to the WATTAgNet Top Poultry Companies Database, has operations in North Carolina, Delaware, Maryland and Arkansas. The sixth largest broiler company in the United States and 22nd largest in the world, Mountaire produced 48.48 million pounds of ready-to-cook chicken on a weekly basis in 2017.
