ADM Animal Nutrition has recalled some of its cattle feed due to formulation issues caused by a system malfunction, according to a report.

The Columbus Telegram reported that ADM has recalled “select cattle feed products” manufactured at its Columbus, Nebraska, facility. The report said ADM reached out to customers directly affected by the issue to recall the affected feed as a precaution. The company noticed the malfunction on November 12 and “took steps to ensure it would not happen again and have been working closely with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).”

“A few customers have informed us of cattle loss, and we are working directly with those customers to investigate their respective situations,” an ADM spokeswoman said in the report. “We have been working with FDA throughout this process and will continue to involve FDA until the recall is closed.”

ADM most recently recalled a cattle feed in July because the product may contain elevated levels of non-protein nitrogen, which could be harmful to cattle.

ADM Animal Nutrition is a division of Archer Daniels Midland Co. Another of the company’s business units, ADM Alliance Nutrition, is the seventh largest animal feed manufacturers in North America, according to WATTAgNet.com’s Top Feed Companies database.
