The USPOULTRY Foundation announces the completion of a funded research project at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C., that has clarified how blackhead disease spreads. The research is part of the Association’s comprehensive research program encompassing all phases of poultry and egg production and processing. A brief summary of the completed project is shown below. Dr. Robert Beckstead at North Carolina State University recently completed a research project in which he developed diagnostic assays needed for advancing the understanding of blackhead disease. His research shows clearly how the disease most likely spreads and clarifies which cleaning and disinfecting methods are effective in decontaminating facilities and equipment.
