TERRA NutriTECH says it will invest EUR2 million (US$2.3 million) to expand its global operations.

The Ireland-based animal health technology company, which recently opened a new head office in Kildare, Ireland, will use the investment for research and development and to grow its staff from 15 to 30 people in the next three years.

“We anticipate our team to double by 2021 and look forward to the future and breaking into the global market,” said Padraig Hennessey, founder of TERRA NutriTECH.

Hennessey and his brother and co-founder Tom Hennessey, plan to expand into six countries by the end of 2019. The company is reportedly in negotiations with nutrition and supplement companies in the U.S., South Africa, New Zealand, Germany and France.

The company, formerly known as Terra Liquid Minerals, says it has a 5 percent share of the Irish dairy mineral market. The company specializes in technology and automation to accurately feed minerals in water to livestock.

“New technologies … are significantly benefiting farmers who need to embrace new technologies and systems in order to build resilience,” said European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Phil Hogan, at the opening of the new office. “This company embodies everything that is great about Irish agriculture and business. They are family run and based in a rural area, yet they have set their ambitions globally.”

Other innovation in Ireland

Another Irish company, Millstream Recycling, also is focusing on technology to feed the country’s livestock. The surplus-food recycler, which specializes in reuse of foodstuffs from Irish food and drink manufacturers, recently signed a distribution deal with its new U.K. partner, SugaRich, in an effort to make a substantial increase in the quantity of byproduct feeds available to Irish farmers.
