Nordic meat and poultry company HKScan has appointed Mika Koskinen and Esa Mäki to leadership positions with the company.
Koskinen has been named the company’s chief operating officer (COO), while Mäki will be the director responsible for developing HKScan’s meat balance and meat supply.
“With these appointments we will further strengthen our food business capabilities. Esa Mäki and Mika Koskinen both have excellent backgrounds to support our strategic transformation process. I warmly welcome Esa and Mika to the HKScan team during this important turnaround phase,” said Reijo Kiskola, chairman of HKScan’s Board of Directors.
Koskinen began his new position as COO on January 7, in which he will report directly to the president and chief executive officer of HKScan.
Mika will be responsible for carrying out the group-wide efficiency improvement program. Before joining HKScan, he worked at Valio LTD in various group-level executive positions in operations and sales, both in Finland and abroad. Mika was also a member of Valio’s executive board.
Armed with extensive experience in the meat industry, Mäki will join HKScan from Atria, where he is in charge of meat export and industrial sales and serves as managing director of Atria’s subsidiary Best In Oy. Mäki has previously held several executive positions in HKScan’s meat business and subsidiaries Broilertalo Oy and HK Ruokatalo Oy.
The precise date of when he will assume his new role will be announced at a later date.
Mäki will also report to the president and CEO.
Other recent leadership changes
The appointment of Koskinen and Mäki comes a little more than a month after Kiskola was appointed to be the chairman.
Around the same time, Tero Hemmilä was appointed to serve as the president and CEO of HKScan, succeeding Jari Latvanen.
Hemmilä will start at HKScan no later than in March 2019, the company announced at the time. For the time being, the tasks of HKScan Corporation’s president and CEO are to be carried out by Kiskola.
