Cherkizovo Group reported that its sales volumes for poultry and chicken increased year-over-year during the month of February, while the sales for turkey saw a drop.

Chicken sales

The Russian meat and poultry group reported a sales volume of 45,220 metric tons for the month of February, which was a 6 percent increase when compared to February 2018. The company also benefitted from higher prices, as the price for chicken was up 30 percent year-over-year.

Despite the year-over-year improvements, the sales volume and price were actually down when compared to the previous month. The volume was down 9 percent from January, while the price dropped 3 percent month-over-month.

Cherkizovo Group, according to the Poultry International Top Poultry Companies survey, is Russia’s largest poultry producer, slaughtering 312 million broiler chickens annually.

Turkey sales

Cherkizovo’s turkey sales volume dropped to 2,800 metric tons, a 10 percent year-over-year decline. However, the decreased volume was more than offset by higher prices. The average price for turkey rose 50 percent.

When compared to January results, the February sales volume was up 14 percent, but the price was down 2 percent.

Pork sales

Cherkizovo saw the biggest increase in sales volume in its pork operations. Pork volumes increased 28 percent year-over-year to 22,510 metric tons. The price increased 8 percent.

On a month-over-month basis, sales volume rose 18 percent, while the price dropped 2 percent.

The company also increased its pork production by 25 percent in February when compared to February 2018 and 16 percent when compared to production figures from January.

The difference in the volume produced and volume sold in the pork segment is attributable to retained gilts replacement. Volumes sold include both intercompany and third party sales.

Meat processing sales

The meat processing division’s February sales volume were mostly flat on a year-over-year basis at 17,370 metric tons. When compared to January, the sales volume increased 1 percent.
