Ukrainian poultry company MHP reported meaningful progress in its strategy to increase exports, as the company’s chicken meat exports increased by 30 percent during 2018.

According to the company’s consolidated management report for 2018, which was released on March 20, MHP exported 286,846 metric tons of chicken meat for the year, compared to 220,983 metric tons in 2017. The report also noted that the company’s total poultry sales increased by about 11 percent on a year-over-year basis to 593 metric tons. Its poultry sales in the Ukraine were stable when compared to the previous year.

“We continued to execute upon our strategy of diversification of sales,” MHP Chief Executive Officer Yuriy Kosyuk stated. “Poultry exports increased by 30 percent year-over-year and the number of countries to which we export our poultry increased from around 60 to over 80. Growing our international reach remains a strategic imperative for MHP.”

The company, earlier in 2019, identified Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Iraq and the Netherlands as key markets where shipments had increased.

To support its growth in sales, MHP increased poultry production volumes by 9 percent in 2018 to 617,943 metric tons. That figure includes only chicken meat volumes and does not include by-products from production.

Future growth planned

MHP recently acquired Slovenian poultry company Perutnina Ptuj, which has a current annual poultry production capacity of around 80,000 metric tons and exports to 22 countries in the European Union.

In the report, the company revealed that it is monitoring and exploring additional merger and acquisition opportunities, particularly in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

It also has expanded its complex in Vinnytsia, which the company said is expected to be its main driver of growth over the next 3-5 years and will result in around 900,000 metric tons of total poultry production by 2023.
