Sofina FoodsSalmonella challenges are continuing, as the more of the Canadian company’s poultry products have been recalled due to concerns of possible Salmonella contamination.

The latest recall was issued on March 21, involving the company’s Janes brand Pub Style Chicken Nuggets – Breaded Chicken Cutlettes, which were distributed in 800 gram packages and carrying a best before date of December 15, 2019. The recalled products also had the UPC number 0 69299 12490 3.

The products in question have been distributed nationally, according to a notice from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Illnesses related to the consumption of the Janes brand products were reported, the agency also stated in its notice.

CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. The agency is also working to assure the public that the affected products have been removed from commerce.

The latest recall follows two earlier Salmonella-related recalls involving chicken products from Sofina Foods in 2019. The previous recalls were issued on January 25 and February 27, and involved breaded chicken cutlettes carrying the Compliments and Crisp & Delicious brand names, respectively.

The company also had products recalled on November 2 and October 26, 2018; and two recalls issued on October 17, 2017, all of which were related to concerns with Salmonella contamination.

According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, as of March 22, 2019, there have been 566 laboratory-confirmed cases of Salmonella illness investigated as part of the illness outbreaks across the country: British Columbia (42), Alberta (84), Saskatchewan (18), Manitoba (27), Ontario (209), Quebec (115), New Brunswick (30), Nova Scotia (18), Prince Edward Island (6), Newfoundland and Labrador (12), Northwest Territories (2), Yukon (1), and Nunavut (2). There have been 95 individuals hospitalized as part of these outbreaks.

Sofina Foods is headquartered in Markham, Ontario.
