Pearl Valley Eggs completes wastewater system

The plant was funded in part by a state grant

Pearl Valley Eggs, in Pearl City, Ill., recently completed an innovative water treatment plant to handle effluent from the washers processing the output of 1.5 million hens.

The installation will be showcased for producers at a demonstration day in early October. The plant was designed by Dave Thompson, and was funded in part by a state grant. Up to 4,000 gallons of wastewater are processed each day through a sequence of aerobic fermentation modules incorporating fine bubble aeration. The final product is suitable for irrigation. Pearl Valley Eggs operates a manure composting plant producing fertilizer blends sold under the Healthy Gro brand.
