GVL contributes to National Pork Producers Council

Following the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) board of director’s decision to cancel World Pork Expo (WPX) this year, GVL, a leading provider of technology solutions to veterinarians and animal health professionals, announced that it would contribute its planned 2019 commitment to NPPC.

Following the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) board of director’s decision to cancel World Pork Expo (WPX) this year, GVL, a leading provider of technology solutions to veterinarians and animal health professionals, announced that it would contribute its planned 2019 commitment to NPPC.

On July 3, GVL Chief Executive Officer Cliff Smith met with NPPC Chief Executive Officer Neil Dierks to present the company’s contribution and show support for the organization.

“We understand that World Pork Expo is an important source of revenue for NPPC, which is an organization that is instrumental to the pork industry,” said Smith. “GVL wants to help offset this budget shortfall and continue supporting the important work of the NPPC, and we encourage others in the industry to do the same.”

WPX 2019 was cancelled out of an abundance of caution as African swine fever (ASF) continues to spread in Europe, China and other parts of Asia.

“We truly appreciate GVL’s contributions and support, and we remain committed to representing the public policy interests of the industry,” Dierks explained. “I am just so humbled by the generosity of everyone. The outpouring of support from the industry has had a real impact on me and the board.”

ASF is a viral disease that affects only pigs and presents no human health or food safety risks. There is currently no vaccine to treat the disease and an outbreak in the U.S. would stop export markets, extremely impacting the industry.
