Tyson Foods is renovating a former AdvancePierre Foods plant in Enid, Oklahoma, that was shut down several months before Tyson acquired AdvancePierre Foods.

The facility is located on Pine Street in Enid. It closed in April 2017 while still under the ownership of AdvancePierre, with the employees of the Pine Street facility being transferred to the another Enid plant on 54th Street.

Although Tyson Foods obtained the building with its acquisition of AdvancePierre in June 2017, the facility had not been utilized.

“As part of the company’s ongoing efforts to meet growing demand for its products and maximize efficiencies, the Tyson Foods facility on Pine Street in Enid, Oklahoma, is undergoing improvements,” Tyson Foods spokesperson Derek Burleson said in an emailed statement. “The infrastructure, location and availability of qualified workforce make the facility ideal for this project.”

Approximately 14 full-time jobs will be created when operations at the plant begin, Burleson said, with the potential for more positions to be added once the plant is at full production.

The plant will produce ingredients for the company’s prepared foods business.

A diversified protein company, Tyson Foods is the largest broiler company and fifth largest turkey company in the United States, according to the WATTAgNet Top Poultry Companies Database. It is also a major producer of beef and pork, and has recently entered the plant-based protein sector.

Headquartered in Springdale, Arkansas, Tyson Foods currently has approximately 1,450 team members at its Enid locations and close to 3,500 throughout Oklahoma.

AdvancePierre Foods, at the time the acquisition was made, employed about 4,500 people. In 2016, it generated revenues of around $1.6 billion. Tyson Foods obtained the company for a price of about $4.2 billion.

Since acquiring AdvancePierre Foods, Tyson Foods has also acquired Keystone Foods, Tecumseh Poultry, Original Philly Holdings, American Proteins, three grain elevators from The Andersons Inc., and the European and Thai assets from BRF.
