Atria Group’s chicken sales in Sweden and Finland were strong during the second quarter of 2019, the company reported.

The Finland-based meat and poultry company, also with operations in Sweden, Denmark, Estonia and Russia, recently reported its financial report for the quarter ending June 30.

Finland operations

Export markets played a major role in Atria Finland’s financial success during the quarter, Atria CEO Juha Grohn explained in a press release.

“In Finland, we have sold an exceptionally high amount of frozen meat for export, because at the beginning of the year there was a larger than usual amount of beef and chicken products remaining in the frozen stocks.

“During the first half of the year, the consumption of read meat has decreased by 4% and the consumption of chicken has increased by 6%. It seems that this structural change in meat consumption will continue to shift from red meat to chicken.”

Atria Finland’s net sales for the quarter totaled EUR263.7 million (US$293.9 million), an increase from the EUR254.9 million (US$284.07 million) reported for the second quarter of 2018.

Sweden operations

Atria Sweden reported a substantial year-over-year improvement for poultry sales, with Grohn saying the company has been able to improve its market position “in the growing market of fresh chicken.”

Atria Sweden’s net sales for the quarter grew by 6.5 percent, totaling EUR74.4 million (US$82.9 million), up from the EUR71.7 million (US$79.91 million) recorded during the second quarter of 2018.

Other markets

Atria Russia’s net sales held steady at EUR18.5 million (US$20.6 million) for the quarter, while the company’s operations in Denmark and Estonia dropped from EUR24.3 million (US$27.1 million) to EUR23.5 million (US26.2 million).

Atria, according to the WATTAgNet Top Poultry Companies Database, is one of the largest food production companies in the Nordic and Baltic countries as well as Russia. Atria has 18 locations in those countries.
