OSI Group and Impossible Foods have entered a co-manufacturing partnership agreement in which Impossible Foods’ Impossible Burger will be produced at multiple OSI plants.

The companies announced the agreement on July 31, in which the Aurora, Illinois-based meat and poultry company will add alternative proteins to its portfolio. Impossible Burger production is expected to commence at OSI facilities next month.

“As a leading global protein provider, OSI is proud to partner with Impossible Foods on production of alternative, plant-based proteins to meet the demands of a growing market in line with consumer trends, Kevin Scott, senior executive vice president, OSI North America, said in a press release.

“We are a customer-centric company, and our mission is to supply our customers with world-leading protein products, working together to produce the best proteins for each market.”

Sheetal Shah, Impossible Foods’ senior vice president of product and operations, added, ““We conducted an exhaustive due diligence process to determine how to scale our manufacturing, and were thoroughly impressed with OSI’s commitment to quality and responsiveness.”

OSI reiterates commitment to present proteins

OSI Group, according to the Poultry International Top Companies rankings, is the world’s 19th largest poultry company, slaughtering 364 million broilers annually. It is the parent company of South Carolina-based Amick Farms, the 12th largest poultry company in the United States.

OSI President and Chief Operating Officer David McDonald, said the company is still committed to farmers around the world and that the partnership with Impossible Foods is just a way to expand its product offerings.

“Expanding into alternative proteins is an addition to our company’s product offering, not a replacement. OSI is committed to supporting sustainable farming and agriculture, and will continue to put sustainability for all our supply chains and operations at the forefront of our mission,” he stated.

OSI presently has more than 65 facilities in 17 countries.
