Cherkizovo Group reported a 51% year-over-year increase in sales volume for chicken and a 15% increase in turkey sales volume for the month of July.
In an August 9 report on the Cherkizovo website, the Russian meat, poultry and grain company said it sold 60.24 thousand metric tons of chicken in July, which was not only up 51% from the volume sold in July 2018, but also a 7% increase in sales volume when compared to June.
For Cherkizovo’s turkey division, the sales volume of 3.86 thousand metric tons was a 15% increase when compared to July 2018 and a 31% increase when compared to the previous month.
The average price for chicken increased 8% on a year-over-year basis and 6% increase when compared to the previous month. The average price for turkey was down 1% when compared to July 2018 and a 6% drop when compared to June.
New figures signal stronger third quarter
The latest figures show a steady improvement for chicken sales volume and a substantial improvement for turkey.
Less than one month ago, Cherkizovo reported its sales volume figures for the second quarter of the 2019 fiscal year. The company reported a 31% year-over-year increase in chicken sales volume and attributed some of that volume growth to the launching of chicken producing assets that were acquired in late 2018. In December of that year, Cherkizovo reported that it completed the acquisition of Altaisky Broiler from the Prioskolie Holding Company, a rival Russian agrifood company. At the time, it was estimated that Altaisky Broiler had an annual output of 67,000 pounds of poultry products. Cherkizovo Group recently announced its intent to invest further in Altaisky Broiler.
Its quarterly figures for the turkey segment showed a 15% decline in sales volume. Cherkizovo Group and Spain’s Grupo Fuertes are in a joint venture, Tambov Turkey.
