BRF has selected Carlos Alberto Bezerra de Moura to be the company’s next chief financial and investor relations officer.

He is expected to begin his work with BRF on September 19.

Presently Moura is the executive officer and chief financial officer of Companhia Brasileira de Metalurgia e Mineração (CBMM), a Brazilian mining company. He has held that position since May 2011. Prior to his work there, he was the corporate vice president and chief financial officer of Diagnósticos da América S.A, according to an announcement to the market on the BRF investor relations website.

Moura received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro – UFRJ and holds a post-graduation degree on Financial Administration from Fundação Getúlio Vargas do Rio de Janeiro (FGV/RJ) and an MBA degree on Managerial Administration from Fundação Dom Cabral, with an extension from Kellogg School of Management.

High turnover

The chief financial and investor relations position has seen a high level of turnover in recent months. With the appointment, Moura will become the fourth person to hold the position in a year, including one interim officer.

Lorival Luz, who was appointed global CEO of BRF in June, in addition to his other leadership roles had been handling the duties soon to be assumed by Moura on an interim basis, following the April resignation of chief financial and investor relations officer Ivan de Souza Monteiro. The company, in an earlier announcement to the market, said Monteiro’s resignation was “due to medical orientation.” Monteiro’s tenure with BRF was brief, having been appointed to the position on January 31.

Prior to that, Elcio Ito, was the chief financial officer. Ito, the company announced in January, chose to leave BRF “to dedicate himself to projects of personal interest. Ito spent more than eight years working for BRF, with the last two years in a vice-presidential role. He was appointed to chief financial and investor relations officer in 2018.

BRF, according to the WATTAgNet Top Poultry Companies Database, is the third largest poultry producer in the world. However, the company recently divested of its operations in Argentina, Europe and Thailand in an effort to improve its financial position.
