Russian farms hit with swine fever

Pig farms quarantined in Russian for outbreak

There has been an outbreak of African swine fever on farms in Russia's southern Rostov Region, according to reports. Farms have been put under quarantine by Russia's emergencies ministry.

The disease, also known as Montgomery's disease, has killed 24 pigs.

While the virus does not infect humans, it can cause large economic losses for farmers.
