Jones-Hamilton Co. was recently honored for their dedication to safety by the CSX Corporation and the Canadian National Railway (CN), receiving the companies’ Chemical Safety Excellence Award and the Safe Handling Award, respectively.
“Our ultimate objective is to assure the safety of all of our employees, customers, communities and the environment where we work and live,” said Jones-Hamilton President, Bernie Murphy. “The safety award from CSX is the result of an ongoing cooperative effort between Jones-Hamilton Co., CSX, and our suppliers, terminals and customers. Our ability to work together to both teach and learn reinforces the foundation for constant improvement at all of our sites.”
The CSX Chemical Safety Excellence Award celebrates a commitment to safe material rail car loading and maintenance. Recipients understand the best practices of chemical safety, and demonstrate a commitment to those practices and strong industry leadership among their peers. To be eligible for the award, more than 600 carloads of materials/waste must be shipped annually without experiencing a non-accident release. Jones-Hamilton Co. qualifies for their shipment of HCL.
Jones-Hamilton Co. was also honored with the CN Safe Handling Award, which is presented to customers who load freight cars with chemical goods and meet strict standards for the safe handling and shipment of regulated products. The recipients must meet established criteria, according to the total number of shipments of dangerous goods for all facilities. The Safe Handling Award is an integral part of the Responsible Care Program.

With this award, CN wants to recognize its clients who make the safe handling of dangerous goods a top priority," said James Cairns, senior vice-president, rail centric supply chain at CN.
