MHP’s poultry exports saw a slight dip during the third quarter of fiscal year 2019, which was a departure from a continued trend of increased export volumes in recent quarters.
The Ukrainian company’s poultry export volumes declined by 1% when compared to the same quarter of 2018, the company announced in its recently released pre-close trading update.
The company exported 79,189 metric tons of poultry during the quarter, which was down year-over-year, primarily due to a lower sales volume to the Middle East and northern Africa (MENA).
However, for the first nine months of 2019, export volumes were recorded at 269,672 metric tons, an increase of 26% when compared to the same period of 2018. That increase is a reflection of the company’s decision to continue “to follow a strategy of both geographic diversification and of a product mix optimization, building up the export volumes of chicken meat across the MENA, the EU, Africa and Asia.”
During that same nine-month period, total poultry exports accounted for about 53% of the company’s total poultry sales volume. In comparison, poultry exports accounted for about 48% of MHP’s total poultry sales volume during the first nine months of 2018.
Poultry production volumes
MHP reported a 24% year-over-year increase in poultry production volumes during the third quarter, with production reaching 186,555 metric tons. That figure was also a 2% increase when compared to the production volumes of the second quarter of 2019.
According to the company, that increase has mainly been driven by the increased production of chicken meat with the Vinnytsia poultry complex expansion. Between January and September, three new rearing sites affiliated with the Vinnytsia complex became operation, and plans are in the works to have another rearing site operation in the first quarter of 2020.
All other MHP poultry production sites continued to operate at full capacity during the first nine months of 2019.
