Cranswick has announced that it is continuing its working relationship with Harper Adams University by offering scholarships to students wanting to kick start their career in the Agri-food sector. The company has committed to offering a £4,500 contribution towards two students' second-year fees, a yearlong placement within one of its 18 manufacturing sites and the potential for further sponsorship throughout their studies.

Two different scholarships have been created to show the broad career opportunities within the food industry. The first is The Cranswick Agricultural Scholarship which offers a one-year placement working alongside Cranswick's Agricultural Manager, the role will include attending events and industry meetings to understand the real meaning of "from Farm to Fork." The second scholarship is The Cranswick Food Marketing Scholarship which again offers a year’s placement looking at the development and delivery of marketing plans by product, market trends and consumer behavior.

The company heard from a Harper Adams Graduate, Lucy Jones, who came to Cranswick on her placement year and then re-joined on the Graduate Program.

“I started my career with Cranswick by undertaking my placement year with the business whilst I was studying Agriculture. I enjoyed it so much that they sponsored my final year of study and I returned to the business once I had graduated and joined the Graduate Program. Joining Cranswick was the best career decisions I have made. I am now a Farm Operations Manager for one of our farming divisions and absolutely love my job. I am so proud to say I work for a business with such passion and commitment to British food and farming, I cannot thank Cranswick enough for their support throughout my career."

In addition to hearing from Lucy, Cranswick Chief Operating Officer, Chris Aldersley commented, “As a business we strongly believe in investing in the future of young, talented individuals, therefore we are delighted to announce this partnership with Harper Adams University whereby we are offering Scholarships to Agriculture, Business and Food students looking embark on their career with Cranswick. We have a great history working with the University and have numerous alumnus working within the business from this longstanding relationship, so we hope to move this positive relationship forward educating students and graduates on the career opportunities the Agri-food industry has to offer.”

Doris Taylor, Head of Development at Harper Adams, said, “We are delighted that Cranswick has chosen to strengthen the existing successful relationship with Harper Adams and to work with us to support the next generation of agri-food graduates. The two placement roles on offer provide an excellent opportunity for our students to gain some valuable industry experience with a major UK food business and will leave them in a good position to secure a graduate level job when they finish their studies.”
