A plant-based protein company in the United Kingdom is recalling various plant-based chicken alternative products.

According to a notice from the U.K. Food Standards Agency (FSA), the following THIS U.K. products are being recalled.

  • THIS Isn’t Chicken Plant-Based Sea-Salt & Black Pepper Pieces, sold in 190-gram packages that contain the batch code 9352.
  • THIS Isn’t Chicken Plant-Based Tikka Pieces, sold in 140-gram packages containing the batch code 9350.
  • THIS Isn’t Chicken Plant-Based Tikka Pieces, sold in 140-gram packages, containing the batch code 9352.

All three of the products were recalled on December 24 because of incorrect date labeling. The products have been labelled with ‘use by’ dates in December 2020 instead of dates in January 2020. Because the products are labeled with the wrong dates, FSA cautions that the products may be unsafe to eat after the intended “use by dates.”

Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products. These notices explain to consumers why the recall is taking place. FSA advises people who may have purchased these plant-based protein products to return them to the store where they were purchased for a complete refund.

According to the THIS U.K. website, the company was formed by Andy Shovel and Pete Sharman, formerly the co-founders of beef burger restaurant chain Chosen Bun. The duo formed the company as a way to encourage people to eat more plant-based foods without having to give up their favorite meat-like flavors.
