Canada creates standard for poultry production

New standard aims for safe food supply

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has instituted the National Avian On-Farm Biosecurity Standard for poultry producers. These rules are intended to keep the food supply safe.

The standard aims to prevent disease in animals by establishing guidelines such as the regular cleaning of areas used by animal and requiring workers to use clean footwear before contact with animals.

Industry organizations participated in creating the national standard.
