Perdue Farms launches direct-to-consumer website

Consumers can now order Perdue Farms frozen meat products directly from the company’s new website, PerdueFarms.com.

Consumers can now order Perdue Farms frozen meat products directly from the company’s new website, PerdueFarms.com.

Initially, the website will offer brands such as Perdue, Niman Ranch, Coleman Natural, Sonoma Red and Skagit Red. Additional brands will be available for sale online later this year.

Millennials – born between the mid-1990s and early 2000s – are consistently turning to e-commerce solutions to learn more about the origins of their food. Nearly half of all global consumers purchase perishables such as meat, product and dairy items online, according to a survey conducted by global market intelligence firm, IDC.

“As both online shopping and the demand for convenience show no signs of slowing down, we felt it was important to be in this space,” David Zucker, Perdue Farms senior vice president of e-commerce and new ventures, said in a press release.

A benefit to the overall community

The new e-commerce website will also benefit the community of Salisbury, Maryland, where the company is located.

“E- commerce is not the wave of the future. It’s here and Perdue is smart to jump on the wave and ride it,” Bill Chambers, with Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, told WMDT, the local affiliate for ABC. “I think this could bring expansion opportunities for Wicomico County and Salisbury and Perdue company that already has a presence downtown.”

A bid for sustainability

Each online order will receive a reusable shopping bag and a packet of bee- and butterfly-friendly seeds to plant. Orders will be shipped in 100% recyclable packaging.

In addition, Perdue Farms will make a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation for each order to help offset the shipment’s carbon footprint – the equivalent of removing more than 70 pounds of carbon dioxide per order.

“Our company is turning 100 years old this year. To make it this long, we believe we’re doing something right. This includes keeping a modern, forward-looking mindset and constantly innovating,” chief executive officer, Randy Day, added.
