Fast-casual restaurant chain Chipotle Mexican Grill has changed the marinade on their grilled Adobo chicken to make the menu item compliant with the popular Whole30 diet.

The chain switched “the oil in its marinade, keeping the same great taste, but providing guests with specific dietary goals more options,” according to the press release.

The Whole30 diet

People who follow the Whole30 diet “eat foods with a simple or recognizable list of ingredients, or no ingredients at all because they’re whole and unprocessed.” The diet is a nutritional reset that eliminates sugar, grains, legumes, alcohol and dairy for 30 days.

"The new year is a popular time for people to participate in Whole30, so we're excited that Chipotle's Lifestyle Bowls continue to take the stress out of healthy eating on-the-go," said Melissa Hartwig Urban, Whole30 co-founder. "Convenience is key to staying on track, so I worked closely with the culinary team at Chipotle to create three compliant bowls for the Whole30 community."

New Year’s resolutions are notoriously hard to keep. In a recent study from the University of Scranton, 23% of people quit their resolutions in less than a week and only 19% maintain their goals long term.

Dietary requirements

In 2019, Chipotle added Lifestyle Bowls to its online menu that contain ingredients that match the requirements of several popular diets, including paleo, keto and Whole30. The bowls are also available in high protein, vegan and vegetarian options.

"At Chipotle, we are always looking for ways to innovate the existing menu offering," said Nevielle Panthaky, Vice President of Culinary at Chipotle. "Lifestyle Bowls allow us to preconfigure our real ingredients, including the new Supergreens salad blend, in a way that helps our guests reach or maintain their health and wellness goals."
