Tyson Foods is upgrading and expanding its Tyson Prepared Foods facility in Caseyville, Illinois.

The project, according to an email from Tyson Foods spokesman Derek Burleson, is being done as part of the company’s strategic plan to increase efficiency and better support the plant’s production capabilities.

The company is investing $27 million for the upgrade, which will include the addition of three new lines that will produce approximately 16 million pounds of product annually.

Burleson said Tyson Foods expects the new lines to be operational by March. An estimated 100 new jobs will be created as a result of the expansion.

The facility was obtained by Tyson Foods during its 2017 acquisition of AdvancePierre Foods, a transaction valued at approximately $4.2 million. AdvancePierre acquired the Caseyville plant as part of its acquisition of the wholesale and manufacturing operations of Landshire, Inc., a Caseyville-based manufacturer of sandwich products.

Caseyville is located about 16 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri.

Tyson Foods, according to the WATTAgNet Top Poultry Companies Database, is the largest broiler company in the United States and the second largest in the world. As a turkey producer, Tyson Foods ranks fifth among U.S. companies. Tyson Foods is also a leading producer of pork and beef products, and it recently entered the plant-based protein sector.

Tyson Foods, headquartered in Springdale, Arkansas, has been involved in many recent projects that involve the construction, rebuilding and renovating of existing plants.

The company is presently in the process of building a new poultry plant in Humboldt, Tennessee, and a Tyson Fresh Meats plant in Eagle Mountain City, Utah. The Tennessee plant is expected to open around the end of 2020, while the Utah plant could open as soon as 2021.

The company also recently rebuilt a portion of its beef plant in Holcomb, Kansas, which was damaged by a fire in August 2019. Also in Kansas, Tyson revealed plans to add about 7,000 square feet of freezer space at its Prepared Foods plant in Hutchinson.
