Versova’s Trillium Farms of Croton, Ohio experienced a large fire at an egg facility on April 21.
According to The Columbus Dispatch, a dispatcher for the the Licking Country Sheriff’s Department said the call came in at 3:20 a.m. for an incident on Wesley Chapel Road. Multiple fire departments were called to the scene. The road is temporarily closed due to the fire.
“Video of the fire on several media outlets showed flames amid farm buildings,” the report said.
A local news station, NBC4, reported that the incident happened on layer site No. 4. “Officials on scene told NBC4 there are no human injuries but do not know the status of the chickens right now. They add the fire is in a front building, not the chicken coop buildings,” the report explained.
Trillium Farms released a statement saying they do not know what the cause of the fire was. “Several barns are affected, and we do not know the full scale of the loss. This is a terrible situation, and we are devastated by the loss of our hens,” the statement said.
A spokesperson for Trillium’s told The Columbus Dispatch that the Croton egg farm has 7 million chickens.

Trillium’s is part of Versova Holdings. According to Egg Industry Top Companies Versova Holdings was formed in 2016 and is the third largest egg producer in the U.S. It is comprised of Centrum Valley Farms, Trillium Farms and Iowa Cage Free. As of December 31, 2019, the company’s layer flock included 21.1 million laying hens. It produces caged and cage-free white and brown eggs, along with liquid egg products.
