Production of chicken, as well as beef and pork, is down significantly due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Production of chicken, as well as beef and pork, is down significantly due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Over the past month, serious concerns emerged about how well the American food supply chain can function with more meat processing plants slowing production or temporarily closing due to the virus. In a WATT Poultry Chat interview, Mark Jordan, executive director of LEAP Market Analytics, spoke about the current impacts on production capacity and meat prices.

For now, chicken production is down about 15% while beef and pork is down by at 30%, he said.
