Cargill Mexico supports most vulnerable communities of the COVID-19 pandemic

Cargill working with nonprofit partners to supporting local foodbanks during the pandemic.

Cargill provides an essential service to the world, providing the ingredients, feed and food that nourish people and animals. We are working around the clock with farmers and our customers (the nation’s food retailers, service providers and restaurant chains) to nourish the world safely and responsibly during this unprecedented time. We are working differently, but the values that have enabled Cargill to meet previous global challenges remain unchanged. Our commitment to doing the right thing, putting people first and reaching higher will continue to guide every decision we make.

These values extend beyond our business operations, to the communities where we live and work. As COVID-19 continues to spread across the globe, we are working with our nonprofit partners and we are supporting local foodbanks and developing emergency plans to address food insecurity and nutrition needs for vulnerable children and families.

Our thoughts are with all those who have been impacted by the virus, especially those who are sick and under medical care. We are inspired by the contributions of medical professionals, first responders, workers, and farmers in our communities whose selfless efforts are helping ensure that people and animals around the world are cared for and their essential needs are met.

Thought Caring Foods, Gastromotiva Mexico serves 10,000 meals for two months to hospitals in Mexico City partnering with local small growers. 60% goes to doctors and nurses at the Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Respiratorias or Instituto Nacional de Nutrición, according to their needs, both are attending COVID cases. 40% goes to relatives of patients at Centro Médico Siglo XXI. Cargill sponsors two months of meals.

About Food Banks, as part of the global donation from Cargill to Global Food Banking Network, Mexico received a grant of USD 30,000 which means 26 tons of food, equivalent to 87,400 meals servings in 300g portions.

We are working with Mexican Red Cross to help to the states where our facilities are and communities with the highest level of needs. Also, we will equip hospitals or ambulances and we will provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to medical teams which will work in alternative medical care facilities managing by Secretary of Defense and Secretary of the Navy. A percentage of Cargill’s donation will be allocated to the operation of their main hospital which will be working as a temporary shelter for medical community to reduce spreading of the virus and reduce risks of violence against them.

Todos Junto contra COVID-19 (“All together against COVID-19”). 16 enterprises and foundations are sponsoring a project to set up temporarily a hospital at the largest Mexico City exhibition center. Some of the sponsors are Cargill Mexico customers and we will donate MXP 1,000,000 (40,000 USD).

These actions are in addition to the help and recovery efforts that we, as a global company, are developing around the world. Cargill’s 160,000 employees in 70 countries offer our thanks and continued support.
