Canadian Meat Council names new Chairman of the Board

Olymel announces Sylvain Fournaise as Chairman of the Board of the Canadian Meat Council.

Olymel management is proud to announce that Dr. Sylvain Fournaise, Vice President, Food Safety and Technical Services at Olymel, has been appointed as Chairman of the Board of the Canadian Meat Council (CMC). The announcement was made on May 4 in Ottawa by the President and CEO of the CMC, Chris White. Mr. White highlighted Dr. Fournaise’s vast experience in the meat sector as well as his ability to work in collaboration with other professional associations in this very challenging period caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and other issues.

Sylvain Fournaise has worked at Olymel for more than 20 years. Previously, he held key positions with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency where his work was recognized by AgCellence, the organization's highest distinction. He is active in several professional organizations which play an important role in the agrifood sector. He is most notably a member of the Board of the Équipe québécoise de santé porcine (EQSP), the Groupe de pilotage de la stratégie québécoise de santé et du bien-être des animaux, the Board of Food and Beverage Canada (a group that represents a large number of companies in Canada’s food industry), and the Disciplinary Board of the Ordre des médecins vétérinaires.

Dr. Fournaise’s term as Chairman of the Board of the Canadian Meat Council will last two years. CMC provides evidence-based advocacy on behalf of its members, works to secure and improve Canada’s global meat competitiveness and promotes a balanced diet, which includes high-quality and nutritious Canadian meat.
