Poultry and meat production dropped in April due to the impact of COVID-19.

In a WATT Poultry Chat interview, Dr. Thomas Elam, president of FarmEcon LLC, shared the results of recent reports released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture covering national production of animal protein and the amount of protein in cold storage.

The report, which compared April 2019’s production levels with those of April 2020, showed broiler production was nearly flat compared to last year. However, turkey, pork and beef production all fell sharply leading to a cumulative protein production decline of 8%.
