Thailand exports eggs to avert glut

Country exports to avoid further price decreases for egg industry

According to reports, 20 million eggs are being exported to Hong Kong and Africa to stop a further fall in Thailand’s flooded local egg market. The move is aimed at stopping prices from going lower than 2.1 baht an egg. Low prices are attributed to the country’s vegetarian festival and school holidays.

The Association of Hen-Egg Farmers has funded the export program with 4 million baht. Funds are used to pay farmers, to assure earnings of 2.1 baht per exported egg. That is 0.3 baht less than production costs.
