Krystal promotes fried egg sandwich as hangover cure

The Hangover Krystal, featuring a steamed bun, patty, cheese, onion, bacon and a fresh-cracked fried egg, is now available for sale across the southeast U.S.

The Hangover Krystal, featuring a steamed bun, patty, cheese, onion, bacon and a fresh-cracked fried egg, is now available for sale across the southeast U.S.

“Krystal has long been famous as the go-to cure after a night of overindulgence,” Angela Johnson, VP of Marketing at Krystal, said in a statement.

“The Hangover Krystal adds another twist to the classic Krystal template with a savory, freshly made fried egg that our guests are going to love on its own and to cure what ails them!”

The fried egg sandwich retails for $1.69 or for $3.99 as part of a Hangover Krystal meal that includes two Hangover Krystals and small tots. The Hangover Krystal is available to purchase all day.

Krystal made a commitment to only use and sell cage-free eggs in their restaurants back in 2016.

New partnership for the brand

The first Krystal opened in 1932 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, but the brand is now headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The quick service restaurant chain now has 300 restaurants in 10 states.

In May, Krystal was acquired by Fortress Investment Group LLC, a global investment manager with offices in Atlanta, and Golden Child Holdings, an active investor and manager in the restaurant sector, after declaring bankruptcy in January 2020.

Thomas Stager, a tenured restaurant leader and operator who has experience with a number of large brands including Arby’s and Pizza Hut, was named President as part of the sale. Stager replaces former President and COO Tim Ward, who is no longer with the company.
