The current supply of whole turkeys indicates there may be a shortfall of whole birds for the fall and winter holidays of 2020.
In a WATT Poultry Chat interview, Thomas Elam, president of FarmEcon LLC, spoke about the most recent cold storage reports for turkey, chicken, beef and pork. The results indicate the supply of turkeys is down significantly compared with the previous year.
If producers who should be stocking up for the holidays now cannot catch up soon, there could be a shortage of the whole birds consumers demand in November and December.
