A new way to control necrotic enteritis
Necrotic enteritis is a major health, welfare and performance disease of broilers. Without technologies to control Clostridia perfringens, the causal agent of the disease, producers are struggling to raise healthy birds and produce safe food. The challenge is now becoming acute with the withdrawal of antibiotics from livestock production.
Yiannis Kaznessis, General Probiotics Inc., will cover the agile research and development of live biotherapeutics using synthetic biology and artificial intelligence. The results of animal trials demonstrate the effectiveness and safety of this technology.
The growing feather as an in vivo test-tube?
Current tests focus on measuring antibodies to acquire information about the immune system. However, antibodies do not provide data about cell-mediated immunity (T cells) which is important for B cell function and production of antibodies. Parker Cole, Nanomatronix LLC, will present information about a novel in vivo test that uses the growing feather as a platform to analyze tissue and cellular responses to injected test-materials.
Knowledge gained from using this unique tool will find direct application in optimizing poultry health selection- and management-strategies, and, hence, production of a naturally healthy and safe product for the consumer.
Feed additives made simple
Poultry health and nutrition is integral to sustainable production, and the feed additives landscape is becoming increasingly complex as more products are launched. Integrators face a myriad of available products with few resources to determine the best choice for their operation.
A new precision agriculture software product was developed to aid both sides of the feed additive equation: providing clarity to producers and differentiation to feed additive manufacturers. Will Payne, Ph.D., Simple Ag Solutions Inc. will discuss how the software platform simplifies and facilitates the integration of information using neural networking techniques to determine the effects of additive products at an individual flock and farm level.
