Del Taco adds crispy chicken offering to menus nationwide

Quick service restaurant chain Del Taco has introduced several fried chicken items to their lunch and dinner menus.

Quick service restaurant (QSR) chain Del Taco has introduced several fried chicken items to their lunch and dinner menus.

Crispy chicken tacos feature crispy chicken, cheddar cheese and lettuce in a flour tortilla with a choice of either cattle ranch sauce or creamy habanero sauce. The tacos sell for $1 each or as part of a meal for $5.79.

The chain also added the Legendary Crispy Poultry & Guac Burrito to its menu. This burrito includes crispy hen strips, a romaine and iceberg lettuce blend, guacamole, diced tomatoes, tortilla strips and avocado Caesar dressing in an oversized flour tortilla. It retails for $5 or as part of a meal for $8.49.

A new take on the chicken sandwich

“Demand for crispy chicken continues to grow across QSR concepts and we wanted to bring exciting new options for the Crispy Chicken user through unique flavors and unbeatable value,” Tim Hackbardt, Del Taco’s Chief Marketing Officer said in a statement.

“Crispy Chicken Tacos for $1 each or a $5 Epic Burrito with Crispy Chicken, Fresh Guacamole and Creamy Avocado Caesar Dressing are great examples of new options we’ll offer guests from our drive-thru’s and delivered to their homes.”

This is the first time a national Mexican quick-service restaurant has added a crispy chicken offering, the company said. Sales of fried chicken soared last year after the viral feud between Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen and Chick-fil-A known as the #chickensandwichwars. Multiple QSRs, including KFC, McDonald’s, Golden Chicken and Big Boy, have all debuted their own take on the fried chicken sandwich in the last few months.

Del Taco, founded in 1964 in Yermo, California, has more than 600 restaurants in 15 states across the U.S. The brand sells a unique variety of Mexican and American favorites such as burritos and fries.
