The strength of higher than usual retail demand for turkey is making up for foodservice losses.

In a WATT Poultry Chat interview, Dr. Thomas Elam, president of FarmEcon LLC, previewed his remarks at the upcoming 2020 Midwest Poultry Federation Virtual Convention. He will speak on August 12, 2020, as part of a panel on COVID-19's impact on turkey and egg markets.

Elam said two major factors, beyond the COVID-19 pandemic, are affecting the turkey market right now: lower than usual exports and frozen turkey stocks.
