Mexican businessman Enrique Robinson Bours, founder of Bachoco, died on August 13, at the age of 93, in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, according to the National Poultry Producers Association of Mexico.
He was born in 1927 in Cajeme, Sonora, the son of Alfonso Robinson Bours and Rosalba Almada. An industrial engineer by profession, in 1952 he started Bachoco with a small farm of 1,000 birds in Ciudad Obregón with his brothers, Juan, Javier and Alfonso, where they produced eggs for sale.
By 1971 Bachoco started in other lines of business: chicken and pork. In 1984, the company began a well-known and witty advertising campaign, connecting with the public and presenting its chicken and egg products. In 1987 it became the first company in Mexico to market eggs in packages by the dozen in supermarkets. A few years later, in 1992, Bachoco incorporated trays to sell chicken in pieces.

In 1994, the company established the board of directors and the Robinson Bours family left the administration to boost its growth and competitiveness. It was in 1997 that Bachoco went public in the financial markets of Mexico and New York.
Currently, Bachoco, as a vertically integrated company with operations in Mexico and the United States, produced 622 million chickens in Mexico alone in 2019 and has 12.2 million laying hens in production. According to the Poultry International Top Companies survey, Bachoco is Mexico’s largest poultry producer, the third largest chicken producer in Latin America and the tenth largest in the world, and ranks second in egg production in Latin America. Its corporate offices are located in Celaya, Guanajuato.
Bours was also awarded as a member of the Latin American Poultry Hall of Fame in 1997 by ALA, the Latin American Poultry Association and WATT Global Media, at the Latin American Poultry Congress in Cancun, Mexico.
