Operations have been suspended at the 2 Sisters Food Group poultry processing plant in Coupar Angus, Scotland, after workers at the facility tested positive for COVID-19.

A spokesman for the company said four workers at the plant tested positive for the coronavirus, and on the following day, production at the plant was suspended because it was “the responsible action to take.”

The company has not yet announced the date in which it plans to reopen the plant.

“Our priority remains the safety and wellbeing of all colleagues, and we will be reviewing the situation closely in partnership with the relevant regional and national Scottish COVID-19 task forces before we restart production,” a 2 Sisters Food Group spokesman told the Evening Telegraph.

There had not been any positive cases of COVID-19 cases among 2 Sisters workers at Coupar Angus for the previous six months.

It is believed that the initial person to contract COVID-19 is a manager at the plant who caught the coronavirus from a relative who doesn’t work for 2 Sisters Food Group.

Arrangements are being made for testing of employees, with close contacts being advised to self-isolate.

Also due to concerns over COVID-19, 2 Sisters Food Group earlier suspended operations at its poultry plant in Llangefni, Wales. The plant was taken offline on June 8, but operations resumed on July 3.

2 Sisters Food Group, according to the Poultry International Top Companies survey, is the largest poultry producer in the United Kingdom. It ranks as the seventh largest poultry company in Europe and the 26th largest in the world.

2 Sisters Group is a subsidiary of Boparan Holdings. One of the 10 largest privately held companies in the U.K., 2 Sisters Food Group supplies about one-third of all poultry products consumed in the U.K.
