Tyson Foods plans to increase production lines and volume at the Amherst, Ohio, facility, which produces sandwiches for brands such as Jimmy Dean.

The facility, one of the largest employers in the area, has invested about $20 million within the last year to expand its protein production facility. The plant is expected to add up to 200 positions.

“We are very excited to grow in Amherst,” said Brandy Shaw, Amherst plant manager. “We already employ 525 people in the facility and are looking forward to adding more team members to our Tyson family. We take great pride in being a positive member of this community.”

Tyson Foods continues to add value to our community,” said Amherst Mayor Mark Costilow. “We are excited the company is bringing more job opportunities to our residents and those in surrounding communities. Tyson Foods is a vital part of Amherst, and we will continue to support its growth.”

The increase in positions will support the company’s ability to meet the growing demand for high-quality protein across the country and its expansion of leading protein brands. Tyson Foods’ brands, including Jimmy Dean, can be found in 80 percent of U.S. households.

The Amherst team is actively hiring for positions online; the facility is located at 1833 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst, Ohio.

Tyson Foods says its top priority is the health and safety of team members, their families and the community. All new hires will adhere to new guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in facilities.

“We have transformed the way we operate and have put in place a host of protective steps for preventing COVID-19 at our facility,” Shaw said. “We are conducting temperature checks, wellness questionnaire before every shift, providing mandatory protective face masks to all team members, and implementing social distancing measures.”

The Amherst facility became part of Tyson Foods’ operations in 2017, with the acquisition of AdvancePierre Foods.
