Changes in consumer dining habits during the COVID-19 pandemic have led 2 Sisters Food Group to create 180 new jobs at its prepared meals plant in Rogerstone, Wales.

“In the past six weeks, we hae seen our volume grow by circa 30%, we have seen our box meals double in sales, creating the fast hike in production, therefore creating the additional jobs,” said Steve Bowling, Rogerstone site director.

The new roles are spread across several departments, ranging from operatives, hopper operatives, machine minder, quality assessor, senior operatives, material controllers, hygiene operative, plant operative and an industrial chef.

“We have a large number of new roles that have come about as our business continues to grow with consumer demand. Following the height of the pandemic where demand fluctuated, customer orders have now stabilized and as we enter the autumn and winter season, demand for our products will continue to rise. We therefore seek people to produce our high-quality meals that our customers love,” said Andrew David, head of human resources at the Rogerstone plant.

According to a press release from the company, 30 new meal recipes are being launched at the facility this fall, including Roasted Butternut Squash Pasta Bake, Flaming Chicken Masala with Pilau Rice and a Christmas special: Mountain Cheese Bake.

2 Sisters Food Group’s prepared meals business invested GBP7 million (US$9.1 million) in a new vegetable processing facility elsewhere in the U.K., which included new cooling tunnels, steam-injected kettles for cooking and cooling sauces, new coating systems and two new automated packing lines.

2 Sisters Food Group, according to the WATTPoultry.com Top Companies Database, is one of the U.K.’s largest food producers and supplies about one third of all poultry products consumed in the U.K. Active in the broiler and turkey industries, 2 Sisters Food Group slaughters about 323 million broilers annually.
