Philippines could see Christmas pork shortage

Tight deadlines make importation to Philippines difficult

According to reports, there may be a Christmastime pork shortage in the Philippines this season. Due to deadlines set by the country’s agricultural department, foreign meat suppliers have been unable to meet demand.

Suppliers were given to Dec. 15 to get 2.5 million kilos of pork to the Philippines, but no company has chosen to work under the time constraints.

The pork shortage is due to two destructive storms that hit the Philippines earlier this year forcing the importation of as much as 20,000 metric tons of pork.
