JBS, IQ Foods and Smithfield donate to CSU facility

JBS, IQ Foods and Smithfield make combined $23,000 donation to CSU facility.

For the CSU Livestock Judging Team, COVID-19 has cancelled many of their scheduled showings. However, with support from this holiday fundraiser and led by livestock judging coach, Kyndal Reitzenstein, CSU will be represented at the upcoming Cattlemen’s Congress in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in January 2021.

Smoked prime rib and smoked pork back ribs are on the menu this upcoming holiday season thanks to gracious donations from JBS, IQ Foods, and Smithfield.

Starting November 16, holiday prime ribs and pork back ribs will be available to the public. Interested individuals can order online here, or, download the order form below.

If you’re in or around Fort Collins, Ram Country Meats is open for curbside pickup on Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 6 p.m. at 350 W. Pitkin Street, Fort Collins.

Donations are to help the judging team raise funds

The collective donation from JBS, IQ Foods and Smithfield of raw product has allowed the CSU on-campus meat processing facility, Ram Country Meats, to hold a holiday fundraiser and raise money for the Livestock, Meat, and Wool judging teams. This donation totals over $23,000.

“We thank all of our donors for being huge supporters of our program,” said Brad Morgan, faculty in the Department of Animal Sciences. “They have made hefty donations during a time when the demand for meat is so high.”

“From this donation, students are learning a lot of valuable industry skills,” said Brenna Klauer, meat Judging coach and instructor. “It’s allowing students more hands-on work as well.”

Being a member on a competitive judging team at CSU offers animal science students a one-of-a-kind experience. Students not only learn how to properly evaluate livestock, meat or wool, but they also create connections with industry professionals within their travels and contests. This fundraiser will aid in covering the travel and registration costs at contests for the 2021 competitive year. With roughly 40 students across five teams, these fundraisers are vital to ensuring CSU is represented at local and national competitions. These donations have taken that financial burden off many student’s plate – by putting deliciously cooked meats on your plate.
