A worker at a House of Raeford Farms poultry processing plant in Rose Hill, North Carolina, is dead after being shot multiple times in the plant’s parking lot.

According to a report from WWAY TV, the incident occurred around 5 a.m. on November 25.

Emergency responders transported the victim to the hospital, but he died while en route.

A suspect in the case has been identified, but that person’s identity has not yet been released by the Duplin County Sheriff’s Department. The identity of the victim has also not been released, but he was identified as a person who lived outside of the county.

Dave Witter, manager of corporate communications and sustainability for House of Raeford, confirmed with the television station that the shooting occurred.

“The only thing we can confirm is that there was a fatal shooting in the employee parking lot of our Rose Hill, N.C., processing plant early this morning, and that the unfortunate fatality was an employee of House of Raeford’s Rose Hill facility,” said Witter.

The incident marks at least the fourth homicide to take place at U.S. poultry company facilities in recent months.

In June, a man was arrested in connection of a fatal shooting that took place at the Tyson Foods poultry plant in Camilla, Georgia. In that case, a suspect, Awayan Dominic Shivers, 25, Cairo, Georgia, was arrested and charged with one count of malice murder, four counts of aggravated assault, and one count of possession of a firearm during commission of a crime.

In March, a man was fatally stabbed at the AlaTrade chicken deboning plant in Phenix City, Alabama. The victim, who was identified as Reggie Milner, was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown for treatment, but he was pronounced dead in the emergency room. The suspect, identified as Eugene Holt Jr., was taken into custody and faces murder charges.

A murder-suicide occurred in August 2019 outside of the Plainville Turkey distribution facility in Oxford Township, Pennsylvania.
