An agreement has been reached for Industrias Bachoco to invest in RYC Alimentos, a multi-protein processor and distributor with operations in Puebla, Mexico.

Bachoco, the largest broiler company and the second largest egg company in Mexico, announced in a press release that the agreement had been reached, but did not disclose the level of the investment.

Founded in 1983, RYC is a meat processor and distributor mainly of beef, pork, and chicken with national coverage that participates in all the distribution channels with fresh and value-added products. This, along with the effort of more than 900 employees, has allowed RYC to be among the leading companies in its field.

"This agreement is in line with our inorganic growth strategy, allowing us to keep solidly moving towards the consolidation in animal proteins as well as in value-added products. At the same time, with this investment we reinforce our commitment of contributing with the nourishment of our consumers,” stated Rodolfo Ramos, CEO of Bachoco.

The proposed business agreement will be reviewed by the Mexican antitrust authorities, COFECE. The company said more details regarding the transaction will be released once the antitrust authorities approve it.

Ramos said Bachoco expects the transaction to be integrated “as soon as possible,” and that the company intends to “capture the opportunities we have identified.”

The company’s decision to invest in RYC comes about one year after Bachoco announced its plans to invest in Sonora Agropecuarira, a Mexican swine processing and distributor company with operations in the states of Sonora and Jalisco. At the time of the announcement, Sonora Agropecuaria had a production capacity of about 15,000 hogs per week, and participated in both the national and export markets.

Industrias Bachoco was founded in 1952, and became a public company in 1997, via a public offering of shares on the Mexican and The New York Stock Exchange. It is headquartered in Celaya, Guanajuato, located in Central Mexico.
