NFU says future food challenges require investment

Doubling food production during climate change, recession makes for unique challenge

NFU president Peter Kendall told the British Crop Production Council Congress in Glasgow, England, that the challenge to double food production over the next 40 years, while addressing climate change and the recession, is unlike any other the world has previously faced.

Kendall said UK farmers are well placed to respond to the challenge, but investment in productive agriculture and agricultural research and development was required as highlighted in the NFU's Why Science Matters for Farming campaign.
