Brazil-based meat and poultry company JBS has been selected to be part of the Carbon Efficient Index (ICO2) of the B3 stock exchange, which will be valid January 4- April 30 of 2021.
The ICO2, launched in 2010, aims to be an instrument to encourage the debate on climate change in Brazil. The Company's inclusion in the ICO2 demonstrates its engagement to the transparency of its emissions and ratifies its commitment to the sustainability of its operations.
JBS, according to a notice to the market on its investor relations website, has obtained important recognitions in sustainability. The inclusion in the ICO2 was not the only recognition received by the company. The CDP, the largest and most respected global platform of corporate and sustainability information, published on December 8, 2020 the results of the reports for 2019, which disclosed that JBS advanced in the rated criteria, becoming the best positioned among the Brazilian companies in the Food, beverage & tobacco sectors.
The improvement in the Coller FAIRR Protein Producer Index ranking, released in November 2020, was another important recognition received by JBS. The company improved eight positions in the overall ranking (the highest among Brazilian companies listed on the B3), a growth that clearly demonstrates JBS' commitment to advancing its sustainability practices and transparency.
The notice in which the sustainability achievements were announced was issued on January 5, and it was signed by Guilherme Cavalcanti, investor relations officer for JBS.
Headquartered in Sao Paolo, Brazil, JBS is the world’s largest protein supplier and second largest food company. According to the WATTPoultry.com Top Companies Database, JBS ranks first globally among poultry producers, operating 112 processing plants and having slaughtered 4.04 billion broilers in 2019. It is also a major global producer of pork and beef, and has a presence in the turkey industry.
